February, 28 2018 - Verified by The Honor Society of Phi Kappa PhiAs a peer advisor for Cross-College Advising Services, the largest advising service at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I work with incoming freshmen, transfer students, and undecided students regarding career plans and classes. I have the responsibility to guide students to different resources on campus that are specific to their needs, such as mental health services, the study abroad office, career advising, and more.
As a sustainability intern, my job consisted of many activities. I consulted various on-campus offices regarding their current sustainability efforts, regarding their recycling and disposal practices, energy usage, and purchasing choices. When working with offices, I developed and delivered core presentations with a group of three fellow interns. I partnered with resident halls and campus libraries to create informative sustainable programming to educate incoming freshman class, as well as the student population at large.
As the policy intern for the nonprofit Wisconsin Alliance for Women's Health (WAWH), I was responsible for crafting pre-written email letters available for constituents to send directly to legislators regarding policy issues. To write the letters, I researched both Wisconsin and national legislation for their implications on women's quality of health care. My responsibilities also required creating pre-written social media posts for Facebook and Twitter regarding different legislation that constituents could send. During my internship, I gained strong communication writing skills, research skills, and social media and website managing abilities.
