Work Experience

Game Day Operations Intern at Milwaukee Admirals

I am in charge of making the fan experience the best it can be. I am communicating with fans that have concerns or questions. I have the ability to pick fans for contests and assist in the total game experience. Through this experience as a communicator I have to employ different tones and word usage to each different demographic I encounter during the duration of a 3 hour work day. I have to be able to relate to fans but, still understand I represent the Milwaukee Admirals and not myself. I have to communicate with peers and my bosses. A few times a game I am in contact and discussing game related issues with full-time Admirals employees and the President John Greenberg.

Office Intern at Global Precision Group

My time at GPG I learned how office culture worked. How to interact with bosses and superiors as well as with employees with the same job title. I also filed paperwork and organized the time sheets into Microsoft Excel. Many times throughout my work day I had to work through email and use my tools given in classes to effectively communicate. This allowed me to gain real world experience in a area like emails that I have found to be very useful in communicating to employers to this day.

Communication Philosophy

This is my communication philosophy. This is how I view communication and apply it to my every day life. During my time at Wisconsin Lutheran College I feel like vastly improved my communication competence. Thanks to the experiences that I've gained through my recent endeavors, my perception of communication has taken a new step when it comes to building and maintaining my relationships and connections. Also, through classes and work, I have been able to develop this philosophy over the past five years. I believe that I am now ready to take the next step in my personal and professional thanks to the challenges and assignments that I've gone through at WLC and working in the area in the past five years.

Training and Development

This handout was used for our training and development presentation during capstone class. We presented on how to properly construct a resume and how to properly conduct yourself during an interview. The presentation was given in a freshman college 201 class. This helped me acquire different skills from many classes which allowed me to share my insight with the freshmen I was presenting to. Thanks to my shared knowledge, my group was able to come together to help start and revise a resume that was formatted correctly and concisely. It was also helpful to be able to be an instructor and understand the different techniques needed to competently communicate to a younger impressionable audience.

Organizational Behavior Research Project

This paper pertains to my emphasis in Business. In this paper I was tasked to find my own hypothesis that was based around the chapter topic of our textbook. The Hypothesis: The most effective way to communicate in the big data era is to improve information literacy and utilize data visualization. The hypothesis focuses on both communication and business. As a communicator I was able to learn about informational literacy and how it is shaping our ways of communication for the present and future generations. The second half of my research pertained to data visualization and how society is leaning more towards machines to do smaller communication tasks. The takeaway is that in big business more times then not it is crucial to be internet literate and communicate effectively to ease the tasks at hand.

Technical Presentation

This was my final presentation for my professional communication class. It is a interview and book report laden presentation that I found to be a huge help to develop my communication skills in many different ways. First I had to interview someone in a field of interest of mine. I was lucky enough to come in contact with the Zone Manager for Schwann's food service. The conversation was about safety and leadership and how to effectively communicate the needs and standards to other employees. Secondly, I read a book that talked about leadership styles and how to effectively communicate from the point of view of leaders on different scales. This taught me how to communicate in many different ways. In addition, I gave a presentation on how to conduct yourself in a formal setting. .

Turf Field Paper

In this paper I was able to work with a fellow peer in my major. The setting of the paper was in a professional communication class. As a group we had to consider the benefits and weaknesses that exist in the institution. We had to also, put together budgeting plans that had to be calculated specifically for the institution based on research we previously conducted. During our presentation we also had the Men's Soccer Head Coach as a guest who gave his constructive criticism of the presentation and how it would actually work out if installed.Through this paper I was able to exert my abilities to communicate and more importantly organize valuable information that had to be researched. I was able to construct a proposal that outlined how the college would implement a turf field that would benefit multiple sports teams for both genders. Coach Luedke being present allowed me to speak in front of a audience that was directly affected by this presentation. This allowed our group to strategically plan our presentation to a specific audience.

Research Projects

Business Ethics Outsourcing Presentation

This final presentation was given in a Business Ethics class. I found this important to highlight considering part of my major is business emphasis. As a result I was able to exercise my ability to be a competent communicator in more than one field of expertise. I was also, able to learn, research, and gain knowledge on outsourcing. The takeaway, is the fact that I learned more from this presentation on working in a team then I would have alone. In addition, I was able to further my knowledge and find a new way of thinking that is outside of my normal thought process.

Masculinity Theories Paper

This paper was done alone in a non-group setting. Writing is not my strong suit however, I thought this paper was well done and did in-fact receive a good grade in my Sports Communication class. This paper compares the Hegemonic and Standpoint Theory we discussed in class. The paper allowed me to think differently about masculinity and how I perceive it. This is an example which allows you to open up infinite thought pathways through communication theory. These theories give credit in showing how theories I was taught in class can be applied and used in most settings, especially when I am outside of a classroom atmosphere.
