David Smith

Iowa State University
From Minneapolis, MN
I have been developing my engineering skills through internships over the summer as well as personal and academic projects. During my internship at Conductix-Wampfler I was engaged in cost savings project covering every aspect of a product line, from sourcing the components to assembly to pricing. Several of the design changes I recommended have gone into effect in the production line. I was also able to help other members of the engineering department with their projects, and gained machining and prototyping experience in the R&D lab. I've developed my leadership and interpersonal skills by being an active member of several organizations on the Iowa State campus. As vice president of the Robotics Club I am in charge of coordinating meetings, activities and projects within the club. I've also gotten the clubs Rep-Rap 3D printer back to working condition and am developing a joystick control scheme for robotic arms. While Community Service Chair for Sigma Nu I organized volunteering opportunities for the house and placed first in the Community Service portion of ISUs Greek Week. I'm looking forward continuing my education on the job as well as working on my own personal projects. I'm extremely interested in robotics, 3D printing, and CAD, and will be looking for a full time job in one of those sectors after graduation in May.
