Clerk; Election Day Technician at Yavapai County Elections
As an electronic poll book clerk for the 2014 midterm and 2016 presidential preference elections, I was responsible for checking voters' ID, helping them find alternative documentation when necessary, and dealing with people who we could not issue ballots to (ranging from an angry police officer to all the independents who didn't know Arizona's presidential preference election was limited to people affiliated with the party whose ballot they requested). For the August state primary in 2016, I was an election day technician, so I set up equipment, coordinated the network establishment, and trouble shot mechanical problems as they arose. We did not work shifts, so these were roughly fourteen hour long days during which our attention to detail and pleasant non-partisanship could not waver, and which, in the case of the presidential preference election where roughly a third of voters had to be turned away because they lacked party affiliation, required dealing with a wide range of disappointed, confused, and angry people.
