Jenea Adams

Majored in Biology
University of Dayton, Class of 2019
From Cleveland, OH
I'm currently a third-year undergraduate Biology major minoring in Computer Science and Sustainability. My #1 career goal is to obtain the expertise, tools, and network to fuel my passion for the growing, cutting-edge, and diverse field of Bioinformatics. I hope that my deep knowledge for the study of life and biological systems through the lens of current biomedical issues, my practical and growing toolbox of computer programming and software development skills, and my ethical and sustainable approach to problem-solving will one day foster a rewarding career in Bioinformatics. Today I actively foster these goals through my current position as a Research Partner in an Environmental Biology lab where I am learning to apply the R programming language, common in the bioinformatics discipline, to various areas of environmental research under the instruction of the McEwan Lab. I was previously a research assistant in a Biochemistry lab where each day I worked with PCR, purification of plasmid DNA, restriction digestion of DNA, ligations, and transformation of foreign DNA into bacterial cells--crucial skills for understanding the complex mechanisms of Molecular Biology. In the summer I hope to deepen my passion for these fields with an internship or job opportunity in Biological Sciences, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, and/or Sustainability research. I would love to hear from current professionals in my fields of interest, especially University of Dayton Alums who are looking to mentor driven individuals or offer engagement/employment opportunities that I would be happy to take advantage of.
