Katie Brolsma

Simpson College, Class of 2018
From Hampton, IA
Student at Simpson College pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Liberal Studies with endorsements in Reading, English/Language Arts, and Mathematics. I loved going to school every day, and I want to share that passion with students and have an impact on their learning experience. In April, I successfully competed my 2nd practicum experience in a 5th grade classroom at Lakewood Elementary School in Norwalk, IA. The focus of this practicum was in the content areas of Math and Science. I was responsible for teaching two Math lessons and two Science lessons throughout my time at Norwalk. In December, I completed my first practicum experience in a 1st grade classroom at South Union Elementary School in South Des Moines. The focus of this practicum was in the Reading, Language Arts, and Social Studies content areas. I have had the opportunity to share my passion with students at Indianola Middle School and Irving Elementary School while completing Field Experience for multiple education classes. I was also able to build relationships with students in the classroom at Winterset Middle School, where I shadowed a 4th grade teacher for a week. My future plans are to receive a teaching job that will allow me to make an impact on young students in my own classroom.
