Kevin Prince

The Outdoor Recreation Program (ORP) provides many opportunities for the Iowa State community to experience and learn about enjoyable lifelong outdoor activities. I engaged in a whitewater training trip on the Green River in Utah, learning leadership and technical skills. I have organized trips and workshops for Iowa State students and the community. One workshop is Rock Climbing I, which introduces beginners to basic climbing techniques and teach them proper belaying procedure. I have collaborated with other student leaders to plan out-of-state trips. I and two other student leaders lead a group of participants on a rock climbing trip to Red Wing, Minnesota. Throughout the year, we are responsible for all the day to day operations of the outdoor recreation office, rock walls, and rental equipment. I am very excited to keep working throughout my career at Iowa State. ORP has taught me many technical skills, how to deal with difficult participants in tricky situations, how to collaborate and organize excursions with my peers, and it has honed my leadership skills.
