Liza Day was recognized for winning a scholarship
I won the Collegiate Fellowship scholarship competition at Capital University. This full-tuition scholarship has provided me with the means to study my interests extensively with less financial burden. Though the scholarship was highly competitive, winning was an extremely proud moment that has changed the course of my collegiate education.

Liza Day was recognized for winning a scholarship
Winning the Dorothy Doerr scholarship was a reminder of the ways that hard work can pay off. By keeping a strong GPA and working hard in all of my courses, I was able to further reduce the financial burden that I, like most other college students, face.

United Nations Peacekeeping in Israel and Palestine
Despite numerous efforts to create lasting peace in the region, the conflict between Israel and Palestine has claimed more than 10,000 lives since 1948, when Israel became an independent state. The failure of previous efforts to resolve this conflict suggest that the involvement of the United Nations may be required to help establish order and durable government institutions. My research examines the relative positives and negatives of the U.N. adopting either a conflict-resolution or humanitarian aid perspective as it considers intervening in the conflict. In order to select the appropriate peacekeeping approach, this project analyzes previous U.N. missions and breaks down the successes and failures of each. The results show how to approach infighting between ethnic groups and land disputes between governments. My analysis includes U.N. interventions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Israel-Egypt, India-Pakistan, and Sierra Leone. I will examine successful intervention methods in these cases and argue how to apply them to the conflict in Israel and Palestine. My ongoing research suggests that these countries will benefit most from a conflict-resolution approach, which reduces violence and protects both states' autonomy. This research is crucial, as it provides a thorough blueprint for future U.N. peacekeeping in the region.
