When I was eleven, my dad bought me something that changed the direction of my life: a Lego Mindstorms NXT kit. Some of my best memories originate from me creating various contraptions from that kit and watching my work come to life. Since then, I have wanted to become a robotics engineer. Once I entered the field of high school, I had to split my focus between my schoolwork and my endearing after-school robotics team. After my first year of learning the ropes on the team, I applied to get an internship at several cutting-edge technology companies and landed my first summer internship at Knightscope, an up-and-coming robotics company that created autonomous data machines. This internship opened my eyes to how a company operates as well as introduced me to state-of-the-art technology such as LIDAR and ROS(Robot Operating System). After my short but enlightening experience, I was prepared to take on a larger role in my robotics team and became the VP of Engineering. Ever since I took the post, our team has increased exponentially and has progressed consistently from placing 45th in our first regional and being team captains for one of the top 8 teams. In accordance with my interests, I have taken classes in college-level Java programming, a PLTW engineering pathway, and advanced math classes like Calculus which have helped further my education in engineering.

VP Engineering at Team 3482 Westmont Robotics
For my 2nd year as part of our team, I became the VP of Engineering and have helped the team conclude in the quarter-finals of the Silicon Valley competition this year which is one of the hardest competitions in the world due to its location. We ended up at 15th place and got picked in the first round by the 8th seed team. This year was a successful year for us in terms of getting and training new members. We have another 12 valued members that have been added to our team and an extra $15 thousand due to filling out multiple grant applications and budgeting our money wisely. Finally, this years robot has overall better mechanics and professional look. I was the second driver for the competition, the driver who moves and stacks totes and garbage cans, which was the objective of this years challenge. The mechanisms of our robot are: mecanum wheel drive, which allows for strafing, a tote intake from the back, which allows it to stack 2 totes from the human player station, a set of arms that moves up and down and elevator-like frame, which is what we use to pick up and place objects, and finally a pair of pneumatically powered arms that allow us to drag trash cans from 5 feet away during the autonomous drive period. In conclusion, we have a well- rounded and improved robot and team.
