Under Dr. Stephen Woski, the Director of Graduate Studies at The University of Alabama, my research group and I are working to synthesize novel fluorescent nucleotides based on the structure of the fluorophore in green fluorescent protein. My current goal is to make a phosphoramidite so the nucleotide can be incorporated into DNA for further studies. The goal of this project is to produce fluorescent nucleotides to be used for rapid genetic tests and biophysical and bioanalytical studies.
