Andrew Relyea
My Journey | Criminal Justice Major at SUNY Delhi
From Family Sacrifice to Academic ExcellenceA Leader Forged by Experience.
Im proud to be pursuing my Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice at SUNY Delhi, where I earned Deans List honors during my very first semester. I previously graduated from Columbia-Greene Community College with my Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and closed out my final semester there on the Deans List as well.
My academic path hasnt been a straight line. Years ago, I made the decision to leave college to support my familya choice that taught me responsibility, perseverance, and a deeper understanding of leadership. That experience became the foundation for a 10+ year career in retail management, where I led multi-store operations with top-tier companies including Petco, Big Lots, Walmart, and Dollar General. I consistently ranked in the top 3% nationally for sales and profit, mentored future leaders, strengthened compliance, and improved overall performance through thoughtful strategy and coaching.
Beyond retail, Ive worked extensively in behavioral health and youth development, supporting adolescents with emotional and developmental challenges through roles at Devereux Advanced Behavioral Center and Berkshire Farm Center. My approach has always been rooted in compassion, empowerment, and long-term growthfor both the youth Ive served and the teams Ive led.
Today, I continue that commitment by mentoring local athletes in Saugerties Babe Ruth & Little League, teaching teamwork, discipline, and life skills through sports. I also hold certifications in First Aid and CPR, valid through 2027, to ensure I'm equipped to serve in both professional and community spaces.
My Highlights:
- Deans List Honors at both Columbia-Greene and SUNY Delhi
- Returned to college to complete my degree and build a stronger future for my family
- Proven success as a multi-unit retail manager with top 3% national performance rankings
- Behavioral Health & Youth Development experience supporting vulnerable adolescents
- Volunteer mentor in youth sports programs promoting teamwork and resilience
- First Aid & CPR Certified through 2027
- Skilled in leadership development, operations, compliance, and strategic planning
- Driven by a passion to uplift others and improve justice systems through advocacy
Every step of this journey has been intentionaland every challenge has shaped the leader, advocate, and father I strive to be. Im here to finish what I started and create new opportunities for myself and the people who matter most.
