Alexander Weingart

Majored in Neuroscience
The University of Vermont, Class of 2019
From Braintree, MA
My long-term goal is to develop targeted therapies, precision medicine, where illness is treated at its molecular source instead of just dealing with the symptomatic consequences. I've studied under world-renowned pulmonologist and critical care physician-scientist, Sharon Rounds MD, at Brown University and I am excited to build upon this experience this upcoming summer. I will be continuing my studies at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine with Dr. Pierre Massion MD studying cellular determinants of lung cancer and joining him on clinical initiatives as a member of the prestigious MSTP Summer Scholars Program through The Leadership Alliance. This experience will provide an opportunity for new challenges and professional development in the field of medicine in an effort to gain real-world experience in the sector in which I hope to develop my career as a physician-scientist. I value transparency, vulnerability, and not wearing any masks around anyone in my network. I enjoy learning and mentorship, promoting positivity, and putting my best foot forward to challenge myself and push the boundaries of science and medicine. I also have a demonstrated history of successfully delivering effective presentations to diverse audiences with different levels of scientific expertise and experiences. Selected Invited Presentations -Leadership Alliance National Symposium (Oral Presentation), Hartford, CT, July 2017 -Providence Veterans Affairs Medical Center (Oral Presentation), Providence, RI, August 2017 -SACNAS Diversity in STEM Conference (Poster Presentation), Salt Lake City, UT, October 2017 -Annual Biomedical Conference for Minority Students - ABRCMS (Oral Presentation), Phoenix, AZ, Nov. 2017 -University of Vermont Student Research Fair (Oral Presentation), Burlington, VT, April 2018 -New England Science Symposium at Harvard Medical School (Oral Presentation), Boston, MA, April 2018 -Leadership Alliance National Symposium (Oral Presentation), Hartford, CT, July 2018
