February, 25 2016 - Verified by University of IowaI work at the Office of the State Archaeologist in Iowa City, IA where I analyze each individual skeleton in the UI-Stanford Osteological collection. I document their inventory, age, sex, pathologies, abnormalities, rare genetic traits, and post-mortem damage. I also take the standard metrics for each post-cranial bone as well as dental measurements and craniometrics for each individual. Furthermore, I take cranial measurements on the Native American skulls in the bioarchaeology lab waiting to be repatriated. Our goal in this project is to be able to analyze the crania from different Native American tribes to eventually create a function that will be able to morphologically predict ancestry and assist in the proper and speedy repatriation of Native Americans back to their origination.
I was hired as a lab coordinator assistant for three undergraduate courses: Foundations of Biology, Diversity of Form and Function, and Animal Biology after demonstrating excellent lab skills in these courses the previous summer. I make reagents and solutions for every lab, sterilize and set out laboratory equipment, perform preparatory experiments, clean and sterilize the laboratory rooms after every lab, and stock, cross, and sort over 25 D. melanogaster mutant strains for student experimentation. Furthermore, I was contacted as an expert human anatomist and artist to create two drawn depictions of arm musculature, flexed and relaxed, to be used as demonstrations for student instruction in Animal Biology.
