Alida is an Afro-Caribbean writer and educator living in Jackson, Mississippi. Born in the Dominican Republic, she migrated with her family to West New York, New Jersey in 1999. Lost in translation, she discovered writing as a means of self-exploration to help her make sense of her identity in relation to the environment she inhabits. Raw and undeniably vulnerable, her writing is heavily informed by queer Afro-Feminist ideologies. Through this lens, she invites the reader to engage in hued narratives of self-discovery as she decolonizes her mindset and identity. While earning her B.A. at Cedar Crest College, she worked as media manager and was a contributing writer to the colleges newspaper, The Crestiad. During this time, she was also a contributing editor and writer for Pitch, a journal of arts and literature, publishing Forgetting Miranda, a queer-of-center creative nonfiction essay.
