January, 30 2020 - Verified by Shenandoah UniversityAs a literacy tutor, I traveled to Garland R. Quarles Elementary School a few times a week to work with a kindergarten class and 3rd grade class during language arts and math. I assisted the lead teachers on testing, evaluating, reviewing, and working with students on specific subjects that were requested by the teacher (mainly language arts or math).
I worked for a few weeks in June 2019 for the Children's Literature Conference that Shenandoah University's SOEL does every year. I helped prep for the event by printing book labels, organizing bags for the participants, attended meetings, helped pass out books and toys at the Rocking the Library associated event, and organized files and folders for the participants.
As the WATTS (Winchester Temporary Area Thermal Shelter) coordinator, I had many responsibilities. I organized and scheduled groups on campus to volunteer to serve food once a week to the homeless community in Winchester with WATTS. I also organized the meals we would serve every week by contacting restaurants and food companies. I assisted in planning and executing the annual "Night Out" event where students and faculty camp out in the quad in November while raising money for WATTS to earn their warmth. I also organized a discussion group called Hot Topics that helped students on campus have more organized and difficult conversations with each other over dinner.
I babysat a 6 year old girl for 8 hours five days a week. I drove her to swim practice, tennis practice, provided meals, assisted with educational workbooks, and planned activities to do daily with her like reading or going to the pool, farms, library, and children's theatre shows.
