Missouri Botanical Garden
Student S.A.G.E ProgramMarch 2011 - October 2011This was a volunteer job that I had to apply for and had a work schedule. The period I worked was classified as the 2011 season (March-October). SAGE Program workers only fulfilled duties in the Children's Garden, where we involved the children and their parents in interactive games, crafts, or other neat activities that taught them about the environment, such as the water cycle, pollination, making bird feeders, planting, ecosystems, and cave exploration. These activities made it so we could be tricky with teaching children about important aspects of the environment without them really feeling like they were learning. In addition, our interactions with the families were to make their experience at the Botanical Gardens more enjoyable. Each of us had to keep a clicker on ourselves and record at the end of each day how many visitors we came into contact with and impacted. I gained 150 hours of community service through this program.
