Andrew Dunbar

Majored in Chemistry, Minored in Mathematics
University of Kentucky, Class of 2020
From Harrodsburg, Kentucky
Hey I'm Andrew. I'm a Biochemistry major here on scholarship looking to go be a doctor of internal medicine / pediatrics. I plan on practicing medicine in rural Appalachia where there is a dire need for doctors. Biochemistry became my focus because it's a way of perceiving the body in a way that starts from the ground up. I'm an avid reader with varied interests, a people person, and I enjoy ideas and adventure.

Andrew Dunbar was recognized for being named to the Dean's List
I maintained a high GPA amid some of the most challenging classes UK has to offer. It taught me the meaning of hard work begins with self discipline and ends when you take your first breath outside of the exam room. PEPP II participant
PEPP is a pre-professional program to train upcoming doctors interested in going back to Appalachia on how to get into medical school, how to do well on the MCAT, provides shadowing hours, and provides volunteer service hours. The time I spent in this program were informative beyond belief and helped to solidify permanently my desire to become a doctor.
Camp Kesem counselor
I've been involved with Camp Kesem as a counselor since its founding year at UK. The goal of Camp Kesem is to provide a free summer camp to kids whose parent or guardian has been afflicted with cancer in order for them to meet kids in the same situation and find a space to heal, grow past it, form bonds with people similar, and most importantly be a kid away from that environment for that week. It's without a doubt my favorite week of the year and after seeing the kids grow so much my first time I've been in love and dedicated to the cause ever since.
