The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program
VITA is a free tax preparation service provided to low income individuals and families in the community. I was selected as a scholar for the VITA program through Stanislaus State University. I was required to obtain an Advanced Certificate for tax preparation from the IRS. As a scholar, I was responsible for verifying appointments and providing clients with a list of documents needed for the tax preparation process. I was also responsible for setting up and cleaning up the VITA site, provided by the Salvation Army Offices of Turlock.
