Social Cognitive Emotive Neuroscience Lab
I helped conduct research that investigated how individual differences in motor-action preparation related to individual differences in cognitive narrowing. The experiment had participants view affective or neutral pictures and then respond to a Navon letters task. Results pointed to a more positive relationship between beta suppression to approach-motivated positive pictures and local targets than either beta suppression to approach-motivated positive pictures and global targets or beta suppression to neutral pictures and local targets. During my second semester, This research collected personality information from participants through a survey and recorded brainwaves through an EEG cap while they chose to view affective or neutral images on a rewards-based motivation system. I collected information from participants via an EEG cap. During three-hour sessions, I monitored the participants' brainwaves while they participated in the experiment, which was designed to motivate participants through a rewards-based system. Participants could choose to earn points by viewing a negative image or no points by viewing a neutral image. The options were presented on a spectrum of likelihood between viewing a negative and neutral image on 10% intervals of up to 90% likelihood on either extreme of the spectrum. The participant would only earn points if they actually viewed a negative image, despite the likelihood they selected.
