Ashley Camhi

Member of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi
From Tempe, Ariz.
My interests lie in addressing sustainable development and environmental conservation through the lens of natural resource economics. For the past ten years I studied and worked in the field of environmental policy. In that time the most important lesson I have learned is that economics is central to effective policymaking for sustainable resource management. I am currently and environmental economist and natural resource specialist for the IDB's new Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (BES) Program - www.iadb.org/biodiversity. Our goal is to mainstream BES into the Bank's work in both the private and public sectors. My career objectives are: To educate other environmentalists on the relevance of economics; To develop advanced economic methodologies to further value sustainable resource management practices; To strengthen innovative policies that make use of environmental and resource economics to achieve conservation and poverty reduction; and To use monetary incentives to help shift the environmental values of o People living in critical ecological areas so they are able to protect their local environment; and of o People living in developed countries so they recognize that protecting the environment can be a net positive.
