First Year Residential Experience Mentor at Georgia State University Housing
Lessened the bemusement and confusion of my first-year student residential group by continuously answering campus and residence hall related questions in floor group chats and also by keeping the group up to date via weekly emails on events, construction, and deadlines that will may or may not directly affect them. Inspired community activity and involvement of my mentee group by encouraging and suggesting them to utilize the computers and printers in the Piedmont North A Learning Center whenever a resident mentioned not owning a printer or requested a quiet area to study when the halls arent in quiet hours. I gradually witnessed most of my residents come to the Learning Centers over the semester(s). Intensified the involvement and attendance of my first-year residential group by planning programs that directly correlate to what theme or event may be taking place around that as a way to uplift and encourage to the residents to remember what theyre thankful while being around their neighbors/peers. Orchestrated the arrangement of one our most successful programs; Paint Jam by carefully analyzing, planning, and realizing painting is one of the many activities most college students, especially those that live on campus do to relieve the stress of a long day. Cultivated a strong bond of the first-year student mentee group with my myself by greeting them, complimenting, and inquiring how classes and everything is going whenever we crossed paths which eventually graduated into more frequent and longer conversations by the second semester. Collaborated with the Resident Assistant(s) on my floor and the ones throughout Piedmont North by asking questions on how to improve programs, planning, creating a bond with the residents which personally led to me to feel as a personal ally and good friend of my fellow University Housing staff(outside of the FYRE Mentor staff) as well as the improvement and increased attendance of our programs.
