May, 12 2021 - Verified by Belmont UniversityAs a Lead Building Monitor, Austin takes on the responsibilities of a School Of Music Building Monitor as well as the administrative duties that are associated with his new position as a Lead Building Monitor. As a Building Monitor, he works at the front desks of the music buildings across Belmont's campus. On a formal basis, he signs students into practice rooms, maintains COVID-19 sanitization standards, maintains the cleanliness and order of the practice rooms, keeps doors in the buildings locked and unlocked at the proper times for the convenience of the students, staff, and faculty, and performs hourly rounds on the buildings.
On an informal basis, he interacts with the students, staff, and faculty in the school of music. Working with people has always been a passion of his, and this position proves to be no exception. He has done everything from directing students to the proper room or person to giving prospective students and families tours of the facilities. He takes on miscellaneous roles that may vary depending upon the needs of the day. For example, he has transported walkies across campus, assembled piano benches, and even spent time reviewing the wonderfully impressionistic artwork of one of Belmont's very talented custodians!
As a Lead Monitor, Austin performs all of the aforementioned responsibilities as well as several administrative roles within the SOM. He schedules shifts for all of the monitors, adjusts shifts if anyone ever needs to trade or cancel a shift, manages the communications sent out to the Building Monitors, resolves any potential conflicts that may arise, engages in monthly meetings with his fellow lead monitors and head bosses to discuss any changes needed within the FWS program, and helps to lead any conferences with all of the Building Monitors over zoom. He doesn't take these responsibilities lightly and is honored to have a role in shaping the future of Belmont's amazing School of Music.
