Counselor at Florida International University
Working under the instruction and development of Dr. William Pelham, Jr., and more directly with Dr. Katie Hart, I am fulfilling the role of counselor to implement the evidence-based intensive summer treatment program for children on the verge of entering kindergarten who are facing obstacles posed by behavioral disorders such as Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD). Strategies implemented include: Child-Directed Interaction (CDI), positive social reinforcement, and a hierarchal reward system. Through 9 daily hours over the course of 10 weeks, the program focuses on preparing children socially, academically, and emotionally for the next milestone in their educational career, as well as providing a basis to be successful throughout life.
