Chelsea May
Cincinnati State, Class of 2015
From Cincinnati, Ohio
My name is Chelsea May, I am a self motivated part time committed student here at Cincinnati State. I enjoy attending classes here and I really like that the teachers are not here just to teach but here to help you succeed. I work two jobs, go to school and volunteer at various organizations, for example the North Collage Hill Senior center where sometimes all I need to be is a good companion, I also volunteer at StarFire which is an organization that promotes people with disabilities to get out into the community and take participation in various activities. Another part of StarFire is StarFire U, which is a post-high school secondary education where students who have disabilities can attend college. I enjoy helping others who do not have the same abilities that I have. I believe that it really makes a difference and i think more people should be involved with organizations like this one. I have two brothers one of whom just left in August for basic and one sister, who I would do anything for, a father whom I love dearly, a boyfriend of three and a half years, and a step mother who is my mother and a best friend. She's been there for me through everything and I wouldn't trade her for the world. In April of 2010 my boyfriend was diagnosed with cancer, he had a rough journey and spent numerous months in the hospital, it was then that reality hit me that life is too short and there isn't time to fool around. I graduated high school in 2011 and got a scholarship to Miami Hamilton University, I was originally a special education major which I truly have a passion for but I was discouraged with all the education jobs that are being cut, so i moved on to another dream of mine to be an Ultra Sound Technician. I watched my boyfriend drop out of college three times because of surgeries and treatments, but he still kept trying. In June of this year he graduated and I've never been more proud. He taught me to never give up even when the road gets a little bumpy. So even when i get discouraged and feel like giving up I just think of him and keep going. I'm thankful to be able to attend collage and i will NEVER give up.
