Experience of an Art Therapy Intern Incorporating Ecotherapy/Eco-Art Therapy Ideas in a Studio Environment
This paper explores the use of ecotherapy/eco-art therapy ideas in a community art therapy studio located in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. A literature review illustrates the marriage of ecotherapy and creative arts therapies. Furthermore, current perceptions on community art studios are provided as well as the concept of narrative storytelling as a research method. It is a case study on an art therapy intern who considers herself environmentally conscious. An artistic inquiry is provided which demonstrates a personal connection to the natural materials, in addition to defining a professional identity. The insights that surfaced are discussed with implications for the joining of arts and nature to promote mental health and to protect our communities and world.

Art Therapy Promotes the Well-Being of Older Adults
This study sought to answer if the creative process can give someone a new outlook on life and promote gerotranscendence. Tornstam(2005) proposed a theory of gerotranscendence in late adulthood. He suggested that people gradually shift “from a materialistic and rational perspective to a more cosmic and transcendent one, normally followed by an increase in life satisfaction” (p. 41).This investigation focused on the role that art therapy has in increasing the well-being of older adults. Well-being has many dimensions, including satisfaction with life. Ryff (2014) considered well-being a multi-faceted concept, encompassing the dimensions of self-acceptance, positive relations with others, autonomy, environmental mastery, purpose in life, and personal growth. I answered this question through a critical review of the literature (Bennington, Backos, Harrison, Reader & Carolan, 2016; Cantu & Fleuriet, 2018; Cesetti, Vescovelli& Ruini, 2017). Based on my review, art therapy can be a solution to the many problems of aging. Creative engagement has been shown to improve psychosocial and mental well-being, cultivate a sense of competence, foster a heightened ability to focus, and yield many more benefits for older adults (Stephenson, 2013). Art making, art therapy, and the creative process are clearly effective non-pharmacological treatment that enhances mental well-being.

The Use of Art Therapy with Children and Adolescents in the Aftermath of Natural Disaster
This paper investigates the potential benefit of art therapy for children and adolescents following a natural disaster. Further, this paper seeks to identify best practices to address the psychological needs of children responding to a natural disaster. Children and adolescents are particularly vulnerable and are at risk in a crisis; they may need additional support because of their age (Snider, 2011). Further explored is how engagement with natural and salvage materials vis-à-vis the art therapy process may be beneficial to the well-being of children and adolescents in the aftermath of a natural disaster. In these volatile environments, poor and vulnerable populations can lack basic resources, be separated from family and community and may be forced to relocate. Beyond the physical aftermath, there is an emotional aftermath. The myriad of adverse post-disaster conditions has damaging effects on the psyche of the child. This paper synthesizes understanding of this topic from experts in the art therapy field, utilizing peer-reviewed journal articles and scholarly texts. This review of existing literature delivers advantageous intervention measures related to mental health issues of children and adolescents following disasters. Many initiatives and programs promote young people’s resilience and recovery, although there is a gap in the literature on environmental art therapy and found object art following a natural disaster. More research needs to be done evaluating the healing power of environmental art therapy and ecological restoration that includes children and adolescents.
