NC State BeeMORE Program at North Carolina State University
Through the NC State BeeMORE program, I will be working alongside my supervisor, collecting native bees from various sites across North Carolina, and analyzing the pathogens found in native bee communities. I am comparing the pathogens seen in honeybees with those found in native bees, to see if there are any patterns. The relevance of my project is to inform beekeeper communities and the general public on the pathogens observed in native bees, and to present empirical data regarding an association between the pathogens found in honey bees and the pathogens found in native bees. So that people may be able to develop a management plan stop the spreading of pathogens in the bee populations because bees help contribute one-third of the food people consume in the U.S.
