Dane Wiedman was recognized for earning an academic award
For exceptional performance in the chemistry lab setting throughout my first two semesters at HVCC, I was awarded The High Achievement in Chemistry Laboratory Award. Additionally, my chemistry course offered a chemistry Olympiad challenge during the second semester and gave us one month to complete the more involved and difficult chemistry questions. The night before the challenge was due, I spent roughly 6-7 hours straight working on the problems and of the people who also attempted the problems I ended up making second place and earning The General Chemistry II Olympiad: Second Place Award.

I was awarded the Certificate of Recognition for a citizenship award for two quarters in a row. The award initially granted students a permanent pass that showed the student could be trusted alone in the hallways. However, after implementation of the E-hallpass system the card was deemed useless by the faculty, so now all you got was the certificate.

Dane Wiedman was recognized for earning a spot on the Dean's List
APHS didn't have a dean's list, but I was frequently posted on their Honor Roll page and was ranked 12th for overall grades in my class of 2023 with no alteration for Honor's classes. I heard that some schools increased your rank by a factor if you took honor's classes but mine didn't. So, my ranking is based purely on my average over the four years of high school. Additionally, the last quarter of the 4th year wasn't even considered so it isn't a true ranking.

I received the U.S. Air Force Mathematics and Science Award for outstanding academic achievement in mathematics and science. I received the Friends of Poestenkill Library Annual Award for my support of libraries and literacy. Lastly, I received the Henry B. Hollinger Memorial Award for my interest in music and science and my ambition to attend college.

APHS World Language Dept. Lip Sync 11/22/2021
For my junior year of high school, I was required to take part in the High School's lip sync competition where different LOTE classes competed with on-stage performances of different language songs. Our performance managed to win the entire competition!

For many years Averill Park High School has had a tradition of holding a senior talent show to determine who is Mr. AP. I wanted to take part but couldn't make the time commitment to be an official act. I talked to the supervisor of the event and managed to be one of the filler acts at the very end of the event while the judges took time to vote. While I couldn't technically win, a lot of people afterwards told me that they thought my performance was the best of the night.
