Hello, my name is Devin and I am an Honors student at the College of Charleston Honors College. I am studying Molecular Biology and Mathematics to receive an undergraduate degree in hopes to attend the Medical University of South Carolina. Ultimately, I aspire to become a cardiothoracic surgeon and practice in my home state of South Carolina. A few of my hobbies includes video games, cars, and medicine.

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)
As a part of HOSA, I created a committee called the Competition Preparation Committee. As the chair of this committee, it was my responsibility to train all HOSA members at the academy for their respective competitions to ensure their success at the State Leadership Conference. In addition, we volunteered in medical-related activities and I also attended the conferences to compete.

I wrote this essay as a part of the 6th annual South Carolina High School Writing Competition, hosted by the South Carolina Honors College. I was honored to be a finalist and traveled to the college to write an impromptu essay. Both my original essay and impromptu essay are currently in the publishing process for "Writing South Carolina: Selections from the Sixth Annual High School Writing Contest (Young Palmetto Books) (Volume 6)."
