Dr. Joshua W. Donnelly holds the position of Assistant Professor-in-Residence at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, within the Department of Criminal Justice. Additionally, he serves as a Faculty Advisor for the Criminal Justice Club. His instructional focus lies in both introductory and advanced courses related to the criminal justice system, community policing, crime prevention and analysis, theory, as well as professional development and leadership. His primary objectives encompass nurturing profound learning among his students and crafting an educational experience that positively influences their cognition, behavior, and emotions.
Dr. Donnelly's research centers around crime science and its optimal applications in policing and enhancing tourism safety. He also exhibits an interest in the empirical foundations of effective pedagogy. A recent area of exploration in his work involves employing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze the effects of crime and police enforcement around recreational marijuana facilities. His research focuses on three main goals: shaping police policies through community- and problem-oriented practices, connecting academic knowledge with real-world application, and applying crime science to dismantle criminal and hazardous opportunities.
