Mezzo-Soprano Elise DesChamps appeals to audiences and critics alike as a compelling and charming artist in opera, oratorio and concert. She has been praised by Opera News for her ability to handle coloratura effusions while bouncing with exhilaration about the stage, her latest Carmen was described as rich, powerful, sensuousthe audience who observed her actions and heard her dark, rich mezzo-soprano voice admired her vocal and dramatic skills, and her debut with Opera Columbus was celebrated as vocal brilliance and radiant beautythe warmth of her voice and the fragrance of her beauty lend themselves to her sprite-like believability. Upcoming engagements include a return to Bay View Music Festival, where Elise has been Resident Artist for five years, a return to The Springfield Symphony Orchestra in Mendelssohns Elijah, and a debut with The Vancouver Island Symphony in Beethovens 9th Symphony. Recent engagements include a return to The Springfield Symphony in Mahler Symphony No. 2, a debut with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra as Mercedes in Carmen, portrayals of Carmen with Springfield Symphony Orchestra and Asheville Lyric Opera, a feature in Distant Worlds: Final Fantasy, and a debut with Opera Project Columbus as La Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica. In Concert, Ms. DesChamps recently sang Handels Messiah with the Virginia Symphony, she repeated this work with the Boise Philharmonic, Columbus State College and Ohio Christian College, as well as engagements for Opera Columbus, Cincinnati Opera, Southminster Concerts Ottawa, Piedmont Opera, Capital University, St-Josephs Cathedral Vocal Ensemble, MDA Qubec, Saurel Music Festival, Bon Pasteur Historical Chapel, and CBC. During her Young Artist residencies, Ms. DesChamps sang Zinnia in Ltoile of Chabrier and a Handmaiden in Turandot with Cincinnati Opera, toured as La Cenerentola in La Cenerentola with Opera Columbus. Ms. DesChamps is a grateful recipient of numerous grants, scholarships and awards, including those of The Margaret Speaks Vocal Scholarship, The Canadian Music Competition, The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and The Bourassa Foundation. Elise is currently on the voice faculty of Capital University and pursuing her DMA at The Ohio State University, where she holds a Graduate Teaching Associate position. She is an alumnus of the Montreal Conservatory of Music and Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
