Emma McLane

I am a Junior, Global Health major, Media Studies, and Interpersonal & Rhetoric double minor at DePauw University. I have been a corporate communication intern at Horizon Pharma Plc since June 2017. I help to promote Horizon's goal of being a trusted leader in the rare disease community by contributing to the growth of their social media platforms both externally and internally. I have had the privilege to work closely with Horizon's #RAREis campaign. By working on a social media campaign that brings awareness to a wide variety of rare disease states, I have been able to connect with families who have been personally impacted by rare disease. Working at Horizon and on the #RAREis campaign has not only given me an opportunity to improve my professional skills, it has opened my eyes to the struggles and triumphs that people who live with rare disease face. During my time at Horizon, I have been able to develop and enhance my communication, media, writing, and analytical skills through daily tasks and helpful guidance from my team. Since starting at DePauw in 2015, I have taken a wide array of courses. By taking classes in multiple disciplines such as Human Cultures and Media, Culture, & Society, I have been able to become a well rounded student. I am able to pursue my passion for social sciences and natural sciences by being a Global Health major. I am also able to pursue my love for media and communication by being a Media Studies and Interpersonal & Rhetoric double minor. I have continued to grow in my collegiate career by holding leadership positions and being involved in organizations. I held the position of President of Philanthropy for Indiana Epsilon's chapter for Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women for one year. Some of my responsibilities included organizing and running the chapters' four annual philanthropy events. I have also been involved with organizations such as HerCampus, WGRE Radio, Habitat for Humanity, and study abroad in Italy and Greece.
