Gary Tutty received both his B.A.('71) and Masters Degree ('78) in English education from SUNY Oneonta. He spent eight years as an English teacher and high school coach. During his time as an English teacher, he co-authored teaching textbooks on Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth as well as one on teaching non-fiction.He also supervised numerous SUNY Oneonta English student teachers.He was also president of the basketball officials of the Adirondack Region.
After leaving teaching,he spent 10 years in medical sales and sales training and management primarily for American Cyanamid Corporation. He returned to education as a high school principal and superintendent of schools. He served as Superintendent of Schools for Morris, Ilion, and Putnam Valley Central Schools. While at Putnam Valley Central School District, he served as a regional delegate for the NYS Council of School Superintendents and was named Superintendent of the Year by the Regional Association of School Administrators of Westchester, Rockland, Dutchess, and Orange Counties.
After retiring, he was the Interim Superintendent for West Canada Valley, Herkimer, and Central Valley School Districts. He has also taught as an adjunct English professor and professor of graduate studies in School Administration at Manhattanville and Utica Colleges.
Presently, he is again retired and working on two novels and has done volunteer work for HOSPICE.
