Hi! Im Heather and im a returning full-time student, and a full time mom. My last semester here in 2009, I was pregnant with my son. Id planned to go back part time after he was born, but he has born prematurely with a lot of medical issues, so college had to wait. Over the past 9 years Ive worked in numerous jobs, mostly in the cell phone business, moved around for better jobs and cheaper living costs (Kansas was beautiful), and done everything I can to provide the best I can for my son. Unfortunately that meant putting my dream of becoming a Psychaitric Counselor aside. How I got back here however, was a blessing in disguise. A few months ago I was offered a job in a new field, with the highest salary Id ever received...but the work environment was far from my ideal. I didnt want to return to my old job because of the paycut, but I knew the job wasnt for me. I was trying my best, but learning to work in an entirely new career field was really difficult. The boss decided I wasnt working out, and I was terminated 3 months into the job. I applied for unemployment right away and began my search. During a meeting at the unemployment office, Id learned about the program 599, which allows individuals to receive unemployment insurance while they attend a training school or obtain a degree within 2 years. I applied, enrolled, and here I am! This program was my life changing chance to fulfill my dream and provide a better life for my son. Im taking 5 classes this semester, so needless to say I have my hands full. But when im not studying or being mom, I love to spend time with my 3 cats Bo, Binx, & Varric, listen to music or play with musical instruments (the Celtic harp being my new favorite) and collects rocks. (its cooler than it sounds, I promise) As they say....when opportunity knocks, you open that door!
