African Student Association
During quarantine our mission was to find creative ways to continue sharing the different cultures of Africa and cultivate a community for people of the dystopia and others who wanted to experience it. Taste of Africa is a big event that highlighted the different regions and its cultural foods. It was a way to bring together university students as well as community members. Due to covid and lockdown having an in-person event was simply not in the cards. After weeks of brainstorming and three event cancellations we finally found a plan that could work. Taste of Africa was now Taste of Africa;DIY. Part one of this plan was to pick one dish from each area of africa, put together boxes full of ingredients and have people sign up for pickup times as well as the regional dish they wanted to make. the second half was each exec member was to guide their group in a at home demo on how to make the dish on zoom. We were shocked at how well received this idea was. We got more request than we planned for and even more people emailing asking for the recipe who were not able to get ingredient boxes.
