I believe in that metaphor, "building a better mousetrap". Using Finite Element Analysis and other analytical tools effectively, I often discover a deeper understanding of a product's performance while trying to optimize it. It doesn't get better than that.
As an example I was asked if a particular closure design was feasible. Within a few days the patented design (US 8707515B2, US 8735744B2) was proven feasible and optimized further. This product was successfully validated and is now being manufactured. It was worth an extra $50M to an existing contract.
May 2014... A noteworthy accomplishment... I had 3 patents issued in as many months.
