John Farris

Retired USAF Senior NCO. I'm a 56-year-old senior studying Hospitality, Sport & Tourism Management. I studied Textile Chemistry at Auburn University before entering the United States Air Force (USAF) in 1981. The USAF didn't have an opening for a textile chemist, so they asked if I had any interest in meteorology. Old weather guys told him, "you only have to be right half the time, and they'll think your damn good forecaster." How could I go wrong, and they paid you for it! Thats 36 years helping mitigate risk to daily operations from the mud to the sun, at home station and abroad for conventional, joint, combined and special operations commanders. Currently, I serve as President of the Alumni Board of Trustees for Delta Chi Fraternity Troy University, many positions of the Board at Fort Walton Yacht Club, known as "That Guy" at First Friday Coffees of the Okaloosa County Chamber of Commerce/Tourist Development Agency, and Secretary Grey Beret Association. When I'm not at work or sailing or at Troy, I'm a federal civilian employee serving the Student Affairs Office at the Special Tactics Training Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Florida. In this capacity, I work to ensure the instructors and staff at STTS have all of the required resources to train and graduate combat ready CCT, SOWT, PJ and TACP. Divorced.
