James Harder was recognized for earning a spot on an honors list
The Honors Program is a competitive program that selects 80 incoming freshman students a year. An honors designation is the most universally recognized sign of academic distinction achieved in higher education. Graduate schools and employers alike know that honors students have proven their academic abilities in a rigorous program, culminating in a final research project in their academic discipline. The Honors Program allows students to pursue their major and minor degree work, while providing enriched academic experiences in Honors courses, seminars, research projects and social activities.

Youth Civic Engagement Coach
Once a week I would work with a team of volunteer college classmates to create a lesson, activity and project plan for elementary students at Washington Elementary School in Bay City Michigan. Our mission was to educate, engage and empower underprivileged kids from a young age to understand and value civic engagement. Through a partnership of encouragement, going through stages of brainstorming, decision-making and planning, the kids were able to present to their school ideas and funding plans for a community garden to promote unity in the community and the school to reduce bullying and to improve their immediate environment.

Driveline Engineering Co-op at Nexteer Automotive
At Nexteer Automotive I collaborate with members of the Half-shaft Core Development Group in the areas of testing, research, prototyping, and future product design. I have developed and manage a competitive analysis database which is a vital resource from which the entire half-shaft engineering department can access and filter information gathered through tear-downs, measurements and testings of competitor assemblies. I assist each engineering group in charge of various different vehicle platforms with parts retrieval, dealership relationships and domestic and international half-shaft implementation research. Whether creating algorithms for determining torque stresses in axle bar designs or developing drawings and 3D models for prototype concepts, I continue to expand my real life experience in the areas of product design and mechanical engineering. In December 2016, I had the opportunity to continue expanding my global perspective through visiting the Nexteer Plant in Wuhu, China to meet with engineers in the half-shaft production program and tour their expanding facility.
