My name is Janette Park. I am an Iowa resident and a lifelong Midwesterner. Not your typical college student, I have had a career spanning from photography to accounting and most recently have found my lifes calling as a professional dog trainer. I have taken college courses in the past but nothing that involved my career field.
Ive been training dogs for 7 years, including being an early practitioner of App-based dog training. I own Kind K9s dog training here in Davenport, IA. I am the lead trainer and behavior consultant for the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, a local shelter in our metro area. I train the staff, work with animals labeled aggressive, and most importantly coach the new pet parents! Scott County Humane Society hired me to teach their behavior enrichment specialist. We still have a business relationship as they send me clients and I have built a great relationship with the girls I have trained! Bailing Out Benji of Iowa has recently asked me to join their board. Having been certified by some of the top dog training programs in the country such as Karen Pryor Academy, Victoria Stilwell Academy, and Animal Behavior College, and my most recent, CPDT-KA certification, I decided I needed to look for a more significant challenge.
This led me to Unity College, which will allow me to expand my knowledge of animal behavior by pursuing a bachelors degree in animal health and behavior. I switched to Husson University because I realized my passion is psychology and not the environmental side of Animal Behavior. Im working on my bachelors in Animal Care and Behavior and Animal Assisted Therapy and a certificate in Animal Training and I can officially call myself a senior this term! Although I know it will be a challenging path, I have the full support of my husband, three stepchildren, and most importantly, my three dogs Toby (Min Pin mix), Freddy (Shiba Inu), and Zara (Lab mix). The other animals in my home are fish, so I have multiple tanks and a pond outside.
