Jen Rock is a lighting designer and technician for theatre, events and live entertainment. Rock holds a Bachelor of Arts in theatre arts from Susquehanna University and a Master of Fine Arts in theatrical lighting design from the University of Connecticut. Rocks design credits include work with professional and academic companies throughout the northeast, the midwest and New York City, and she is the recipient of two Eliot Norton Awards for her lighting design work in Boston. Additionally, Rock has been employed with companies such as Actors Theatre of Louisville, the Glimmerglass Opera and High Output, Inc., and has served on the faculties of Eastern Connecticut State University and Western Michigan University.

Arranged Marriages: Collaboration in Educational Theatre

I attended the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) in March, where I was a panelist in a session titled: Arranged Marriages, Collaboration in Educational Theatre. Additional panelists included faculty members from Otterbein University, Georgia College, and Mississippi State University. The purpose of this panel was to create a dialogue focused on building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships in academic settings. We addressed some difficult topics including the power dynamics that are inherent in the faculty/ student relationship, as well as how to navigate artistic differences within a work environment where tenure plays a role in the interpersonal relationships of the theatre practitioners.
