Karen Burt

Majored in Social Work
Georgia State University, Class of 2018
From Roswell, GA
I am a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), with Forsyth County and also a Social Work major at GSU, expecting to graduate May of 2018. As a CASA, I represent children that have been placed in state custody, relaying their wishes as well as recommend services or needs to the court. When I graduate, I would like to continue to work with children focusing on the many teens who age out of the system without a permanency plan. I have recently advocated for three sisters that were adopted by their foster parents and in doing so was able to keep the children together. I am currently working with teenage brothers on a permanency plan as they approach aging out of the system. I also have over 20 years experience, from running a classroom to managing a center. I have taken a center on the verge of closing and turned it around and grown enrollment to capacity.
