Kayla Vondracek

Majored in Environmental Studies & Agriculture, Minored in Natural Resources Emphasis
University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Class of 2021
From Salem, South Dakota
Hello! My name is Kayla, and I am a student at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln majoring in Environmental Studies with an emphasis in Natural Resources. I also have an Associate of Science degree in Agriculture from Northeast Community College. I am a non-traditional student, and it took a lot of planning and courage for me to pursue higher education at a later stage in my life. Making the decision to go back to school has been very rewarding and I am excited to see where my education continues to take me! My pursuit of higher education was made possible through my wonderful husband, Luke. His unwavering faith in me has kept me going through a lot of difficult times in my life and helped me achieve more than I could have ever imagined. Outside of school and work, I like to hike, camp, kayak, or keep busy planning a sustainability-related project. Follow this page if you want to see what I'm working on!

Human Influence on the Biodiversity of Algae in the Niobrara River
With funding through the Undergraduate Creative Activities and Research Experience (UCARE) program and the Cabela's Apprenticeship Program, I am working with a faculty mentor to conduct a research project that started in June of 2019. My faculty advisor, Dr. Jessica Corman, is working on the "Niobrara River Project", and UCARE and Cabela's allowed me the opportunity to assist with parts of this project for summer 2019. Specifically, my project looks at algae biodiversity and how human recreation and activities can influence biodiversity.
