Sovereign Autonomy for Long-term Monitoring Of Non-human genes (SALMONg)
SALMONg provides educational materials and technical support to communities interested in genetic assessments of non-human components of the environment. SALMONg will include field-based training for participants to become familiar with laboratory methods commonly used in DNA analyses. We are developing a field-based genetics curriculum to teach high school students and community members how to conduct polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to target fish DNA. I am developing a standard operating procedure for the use of portable PCR and gel electrophoresis systems to deploy at various field camps.
