Kristin Feickert of Purcellville participates in Healthy Food Fest event at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine
Kristin Feickert of Purcellville was among the master of biomedical sciences (MBS) students at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) who attended and volunteered at the launch off of the Healthy Food Fest. Building off of the 10,000 Meals service event that took place in August 2018, both students and Geisinger faculty/staff used the occasion to conduct a multi-institution case study. The event's goal was to intentionally effect and reduce food insecurity occurring in our region. Local kids and families were invited to have a fun, educational day learning about healthy food options. Kristin Feickert worked alongside her chipper classmates delivering healthy snacks and tutorials focused around food and nutrition. Visitors were encouraged to participate in a variety of events from interactive activities and games to cooking demonstrations. Volunteers welcomed attendees to leave with home cookbooks and a bag full of groceries to encourage future nutritious practices.

Kristin Feickert of Purcellville was among the master of biomedical sciences (MBS) students at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) who participated in the seventh annual North Eastern Pennsylvania Trans Health Conference. Kristin arrived early to help set up the conference. She then used the rest of her time to welcome, register, and direct guests for the all day event. The conference served as an educational forum for health care professionals and the public regarding transgender issues. Its aim was to raise awareness of and help individuals learn from the transgender community.

Kristin Feickert of Purcellville, a member of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's (GCSOM) MBS Class of 2019, volunteered at the Generosity Feeds initiative to package 10,000 meals for underserved families in the Lackawanna county Pa. region. In this event, four colleges came throughout the Scranton area came together to pack the meals. Kristin Feickert worked alongside classmates as well as faculty and staff to achieve the desired target goal. These meals were then delivered to five elementary schools in Scranton, distributed to help battle hunger throughout the district.

Kristin Feickert of Purcellville, a member of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's (GCSOM) MBS Class of 2019, was among local citizens and students giving back to the community at St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen. Often seen there on weekends, Kristin Feickert, a passionate advocate about food and nutrition, helped patrons get the adequate food and sustenance needed. This was accomplished by working alongside kitchen staff to both prepare and serve brunch. Once the local Scranton communities received their meal they were welcome to stay around for a chat or continue about their day to the next set of activities.

Kristin Feickert of Purcellville, a member of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's (GCSOM) MBS Class of 2019, attends Africans in the Diaspora Cultural Bazaar event. The purpose was to celebrate African culture and heritage. Members of the GCSOM community were invited to learn about the cultural customs, music, and food of the region. The event included traditional dance performances by Wilkes University's African Cultural Association as well as arts and crafts.

Kristin Feickert of Purcellville was among the master of biomedical sciences (MBS) students at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) who attended Music and Medicine: Leonard Bernstein presented by Richard Kogan, MD. This event took place at the Scranton Cultural Center's Masonic Temple. Here Dr. Richard Kogan analyzed Leonard Bernsteins life and musical contributions through a lecture/performance style theatrical event. A skilled pianist and psychiatrist by trade, Dr. Kogan performed selections of Bernsteins music that was interspersed with dialogue, commentary, and reflection regarding his life. The event finale was a Q&A session for attendee members.

Over 500 hours of patient exposure working in a Level II Emergency Department and a Primary Care outpatient clinic. Tended to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Carefully documented history of present illness, physical exams, testing results, and surgical procedures. Medical Cocaine Trends from 2006-2017 and its Application in U.S. Medicine
Kristin Feickert of Purcellville was among the master of biomedical sciences (MBS) students at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) who conducted research as part of her community health research elective at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. In this research project, she investigated trends in medical cocaine distribution for ten states from 2006-2017. She and her collaborator also examined the history of cocaine use and its applicability in medicine today. Raw data was compiled using Automated Reports and Consolidated Ordering System. Kristin became proficient at Prism 8, an analysis and graphing software popularly used in scientific literature. This work was presented in Geisinger's community health research class and is pending publication in the third volume of the school's in house journal, SCRIP.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
Kristin Feickert of Purcellville was among the master of biomedical sciences (MBS) students at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) who presented clinical research to fellow students and staff in her neuroscience class. Kristin and two other collaborators conducted a literature review of transcranial magnetic stimulation as a technique and its use in Major Depressive Disorder. The research project focused on the technique's efficacy with Major Depressive Disorder and other psychological and/or motor disorders. The article's findings are awaiting pending publication in the school's in house journal, SCRIP. Kristin will be first author on this publication.

Kristin Feickert of Purcellville was among the master of biomedical sciences (MBS) students at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) who submitted a manuscript to SCRIP, the in house journal of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. As first author on the article, she and her collaborators have been invited to submit the manuscript to the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology.

Medical Cocaine Usage in the United States: 2002-2017
Kristin Feickert of Purcellville was among the master of biomedical sciences (MBS) students at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) who presented research at the 2nd Annual Pennsylvania Pain and Addiction Summit. The Conference was an all day event with an emphasis on the holistic treatment of the patients. Heath professionals discussed the state of the opioid crisis and shared approaches on how to best treat individuals suffering from pain and/or substance abuse. Kristin attended the event and presented the research alongside the poster's main authors who were medical and/or MBS affiliates of Geisinger. The poster presentation investigated cocaine distribution from 2002-2017 as a function of time, business activity, and state usage. All data was compiled using the Automated Reports and Consolidated Ordering System.
