Majoring in Ecological Studies, Minoring in Adventure Recreation
Castleton University, Class of 2020
From Moretown, VT
I am an Ecological Studies major who is passionate about getting more involved in conservation efforts and environmental issues both in and out of the United States. Even though I have a soft spot for Herpetology and Ornithology, I am also passionate in being getting more involved in scientific research in the field of Ecology and Biology. When not studying, you may find me enjoying my time mountain biking, cycling, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and camping to name a few things. Through my class courses and my REU internship, I have become a digital photographer enthusiast as I have documented my travels to Iceland, the Badlands National Park and Black Hills National Forest, and local excursions around my home and university. Looking forward in my career, I would like to do some more traveling, obtain scuba diving and many other certifications, obtain new skills my university is unable to provide, and make new connections. I am persistent, have a keen eye for details, work incredibly hard, and have a very unique personality once you get to really know me.

Student Researcher at NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU): Sustainable RIVER

My partner Ashley Williams and I did research on how tree species richness and abundance is affecting the distribution of American beaver (Castor canadenis) along the Missouri River. Based out of the Department of Sustainability at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, we went out into the field collected data on canopy cover, tree diameter, and tree species at our study sites. During my internship, I have met new people through networking and have witnessed different sides on different cultural, social, and environmental issues in relation to the area. Through various REU program outings and activities, I have broadened my knowledge and respect for the environment from my perspective to the perspective of the indigenous people who were here long before me. On July 30th, my partner and I presented our poster, 'Tree Presence and Species Identity Affect American Beaver Activity Along the Missouri River', at the SD EPSCoR Undergraduate Symposium in Sioux Falls, SD.
