Laila is a recent Purchase College graduate with a B.A. in Playwriting and Screenwriting, pursuing an MFA in Television Writing at Stony Brook University. She is an incoming Current Programming Intern at Warner Bros. Entertainment and CBS Corporation's joint venture, The CW Network. Laila has been named to the inaugural Peter Roth Internship Program at The Paley Center for Media and is a former Film/TV Development intern at the National Association of Latino Independent Producers. She is the founder and president of the first Women in Animation club at a SUNY campus and debuted as director and producer of the 2021 annual student-run theatre/film event, POV Festival. Her previous accomplishments include the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence, SUNY ACT Scholarship for Student Excellence and Initiative, The Television Academy Foundation Internship Program finalist, and YoungArts competition winner for an original screenplay. She has established ties with the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts as an Arts Administration Intern, the Student Representative for Purchase College at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, and as a selected Kennedy Center Playwriting Intensive participant.

Women in Animation at Purchase

Laila founded the first Women in Animation (WIA) club established on any SUNY campus. The student club is an extension of the global non-profit Women in Animation, the only organization dedicated to advancing women in the field of animation. Laila was inspired to launch the club in her senior year to encourage interest in animation careers, focusing on supporting underrepresented groups. Her vision offers academic and professional resources while promoting multi-disciplinary collaboration. Last fall, she coordinated events with special appearances from guest speakers affiliated with The Walt Disney Company, Skydance Animation, Pixar, and more.

Peter Roth Intern at The Paley Center for Media

Laila was selected for the inaugural class of future visionary television executives, focusing on diversifying network series. She conducted historical research utilizing the Paley archive database to lead discussions critiquing inclusivity in media. Laila also interacted with PaleyFest LA attendees at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to generate buzz for black-ish, and This is Us talkbacks while managing The Paley Center for Media membership table.

Film/TV Development Intern at National Association of Latino Independent Producers

Laila reviewed pitch decks while interviewing filmmakers seeking funding for project development as part of the Latino Lens team. She devised a talent list while tracking the success of Latinx production companies and content creators, facilitated mentorship roundtables for the Emerging Content Creator Inclusion Initiative Scholarship, and revised film deliverables while managing agreement forms for Netflix selected shorts.

POV Festival 2021

The Playwriting and Screenwriting (PWSW) Department's POV Festival is an annual student-run theatre/film festival featuring winning play, screenplay, and film submissions from undergraduate Playwriting and Screenwriting and Film BFA students at The State University of New York at Purchase College. As the director, producer, website designer, casting director, marketing specialist, fundraiser, talent coordinator, and more, Laila voluntarily managed the monumental task of presenting this large-scale virtual two-day celebration of new works over eight months. Just a Ballad

My original one-act play, Just a Ballad, was selected for the Purchase College Playwriting and Screenwriting Department's Heliotrope List, a juried faculty list of outstanding scripts written by students in the major. Just a Ballad was also chosen as the only staged production to premiere at the 2020 annual Purchase College POV Festival until shut down by the pandemic.
