Digital Piano Design Project (Classwork)The proposed design project includes the use of an Altera DE2 board equipped with a Cyclone II FPGA and Quartus II Logic Design Software to synthesize music. A digital piano will be created with hardware descriptive language (VHDL) to integrate the learning experiences of digital design and hardware programming. The piano will be controlled by a selected range of keys on the keyboard, connected to the DE2 through PS2. The frequencies which the keys activate will be derived from an on board 50MHz oscillator clock and programmed to match each corresponding musical note. Additionally, a virtual keyboard will be displayed on the monitor, mimicking the corresponding depressed keys on the keyboard and displaying the note(s) above the key(s).
