Hello, my name is Maia Schmidt and I am a Speech Language Pathology major. I am the Community Outreach Chair for The National Society of Leadership and Success. I am also an active member in BigJacks, a mentoring program for the children of the community, and a member of NSSLHA, The National Society of Speech Language Hearing Association.

BigJacks
BigJacks is a mentoring program for the children of lower income families. We are given a child to mentor and hang out with once a week. I have been in BigJacks since last Fall and I have the sweetest little girl that I get the privilege of seeing every week. We do not do anything huge, but we play games and just hang out together. She's like a little sister to me.

The National Society of Speech-Language and Hearing Association
NSSLHA is a club especially made for my major. It is a really nice tool to meet like-minded people and get to know my professors on a more personal level. We do community events for the children who attend our clinic. There is a Halloween event that we hold annually where the children get to trick or treat at the clinic and play games and see their clinician all dressed up.

NSLS is a community driven organization that focuses on training the students on how to become better leaders. I joined NSLS in the Spring of last year and now I hold the position of Community Outreach Chair. I am in charge of reaching out to members and being their point of contact if any questions arise.

I was apart of my school's Beta Club for two years and I was President is my senior year. Beta club was a community service club with seminars we could attend that provided up with more training on how to become a leader.

Some of my responsibilities were to organize and prepare meetings, help run the blood drive every semester, and set up the homecoming court and dance. We also were in charge of initiating community service projects and ways to help the community.
