Monica Stokes

Hello, I am originally from Tallahassee. Born on the campus of Florida A & M University's former hospital, I have the distinction of being a "Brickler Baby"-- delivered by the legendary Dr. A.D. Brickler. My grandparents did not earn more than a middle school education. However, they instilled the importance of education, a good work ethic and character and family. My grandparents worked faithfully and tirelessly to make sure all of their children and grandchildren had the means to access any academic experience we chose to pursue. All have earn a degree(s) and/or professional certification. My journey has not been an easy one. In fact, it could be one the Lifetime Network makes movies about. I've experienced many obstacles that may have driven others mad. But, I am an overcomer! That is what I speak into the lives of my daughter and grandchildren. It is what I speak into the lives of every student with whom I come in contact. In my world, there is no such thing as a child that cannot learn. I model for my students that challenges are an opportunity to conquer your fears and worries-- especially those with learning deficits. They are spectacular little humans with minds that process information differently. It is not a negative. It is a teacher's responsibility, my responsibility, to find the right tools to help them create the beautiful masterpiece that is their own unique library of knowledge. My name is Monica Stokes.
