Dr. Matthew Carter joined the Valdosta State University faculty in August 2012. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in communication sciences and disorders and Master of Science in speech, language, and auditory pathology, both from East Carolina University. He holds a Bachelor of Science in communication studies from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He is a licensed speech-language pathologist through the State of Georgia Board for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and holds the certificate of clinical competence in speech language pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Since 2019, Matthew has spearheaded efforts to improve childhood literacy rates in South Georgia via a partnership with the Scottish-Rite Foundation of Southwest Georgia. Through these efforts, thousands of local school children have been screened for the signs of literacy disorders, hundreds of children have received free literacy tutoring, and hundreds of graduate students of speech-language pathology have engaged in service-based learning opportunities within the Valdosta-Lowndes Community.
