Md Kawsar Alam is a Ph.D. candidate in Chemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), with a strong focus on electrocatalysis, nanomaterials, and sustainable energy solutions. His current research centers on developing heteroatom-doped cobalt phosphide and cobalt alloy nanostructures as efficient, durable, and earth-abundant catalysts for electrochemical water splitting and green hydrogen production.
Prior to joining VCU, Alam completed his M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Chemistry from Jagannath University, Bangladesh, graduating with high distinction (2nd and 3rd in merit positions, respectively). His academic journey has been marked by several prestigious scholarships and fellowships, including the James V. Quagliano Fellowship, the Bersoff Scholarship Fund, and the National Science and Technology Fellowship from Bangladesh.
Alam has authored peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and has presented his work at international conferences such as the American Chemical Society (ACS) Fall Meeting. His expertise spans electroanalytical techniques, voltammetry, graphene-based sensors, and surface modification of nanomaterials.
In addition to his research, Alam brings years of teaching experience as a former Assistant Professor and Lecturer at Dhaka International University, Bangladesh. He is currently serving as a Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant at VCU and is an active member of the American Chemical Society.
